Patient Care Attendant

The Patient Care Attendant is under the direct supervision of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Director of Nursing or (DON).  As a PCA, you are required to sit or stand for extended periods of time.  Reaching above shoulder height, below the waist or lifting as required to file documents

or store materials throughout the workday. Proper lifting techniques and ability to crouch, grasp, kneel, pull, climb, push, reach, stand and stoop are essential abilities needed to be able to perform the essential functions of the job.  PCA's must be able to lift 51+ pounds frequently.

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED

  • Must pass our facilities training a, competency evaluation program, assessed by the LPN

  • If STNA certification is applicable, it must be on state registry in good standing

  • A minimum of 6 months to 1-year experience working as a STNA is preferred.

  • Must have flexibility with schedule to meet current needs of our unit

  • Must enjoy working with the senior population

 

Job-Specific Duties (specific duties include but are not limited to):

  • Provide direct resident care as assigned by the nurse or DON

  • Conduct routine resident rounds (every 2 hours), check soiled linens, answer call lights

  • Recognize and report anything unusual about the residents to the DON

  • Assist in daily cleaning as required

  • Take residents to dining room and assist in feeding as assigned

  • Complete food percentage intake and output and bowel and bladder records 

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living including but not limited to:  bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting activities.

  • Assist in running programming (activities)

  • Serve meals to residents in the dining room and follow unit’s sanitation guidelines

  • Record and report changes in resident’s eating habits to the nurse and complete FLOW

  • Perform other related duties as directed by licensed practical nurse or unit supervisor

  • Laundry service for residents (put away nicely and folded)

  • Assist with mobility; up and down in chairs and furniture, wheelchairs and beds.

  • Changing and dressing of residents.

  • Take the trash out at the end of your shift
